Families of police personnel residing in police colonies in the city on Monday came out in support of police constable Shrikrishna Uttamrao Khokle who was arrested and later suspended from service for allegedly beating a resident doctor at Sassoon Hospital last week.
The members of the families met Pune police commissioner K K Pathak and demanded that Khokle be reinstated. Pathak assured the family members to look into the matter.
Khokle, who is attached to Khadak police station, had gone to ward number 14 of Sassoon hospital to get done the medical tests of suspects arrested in a criminal cases.
Resident doctor K R Bhutiya (28), an orthopedic surgeon, was rushing from ward number 14 to to ward number 3 for attending an emergency call when his shoulder brushed Khokle. This angered Khokle and he slapped Bhutiya and later hit him with a security guard’s stick. Bhutiya lodged a complaint at Bundgarden police station. Khokle also lodged a cross complaint against Bhutiya and his three other colleagues for allegedly manhandling him while he was in uniform and performing his duty.
However, Khokle was arrested and later remanded in police custody for a day.
