Stepping out of the usual,funny interpretations of homosexuality,city-based actor Abhyang Kuvalekar is coming up with a film that deals with the intricacies in the homosexual relationships. Produced by his home production,the film throws light on various aspects such as emotional turbulence in the life of a gay couple.
Films have been made on this topic,but what I do not appreciate is the fun that filmmakers make out of such serious topic. Sexual orientation of any person is his or her own choice and it should be accepted openly in a democratic country like ours. Through this film,I want to tell the audiences that a gay relationship is like a normal man-woman relationship with the same emotional involvement,possessiveness,seriousness,commitment and so on. Another aspect- vulgarity,that it is commonly tagged with,does not need to be a part of a film portraying such issues, says Kuvalekar.
Though not the first film to be made on this issue,Kuvalekar says that this is one of very few films to have dealt with the seriousness of the topic. Films like Dostana do talk about this topic,but it cannot be looked upon as a film that throws light on the issue. I want people to look at gay relationships like normal man woman relationship. I believe that an individuals expressions are important and ones sexual orientation is a part of his or her expression. I want this film to come out and tell the world to give respect to these expressions, he concludes.
