State to take Centre’s help to study groundwater levels

The state government with the help of Groundwater Survey and Development Agency is all set to conduct a study in areas where water levels have gone below two-three meters.

Speaking at the concluding session of the revenue conference held at YASHDA,Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said that post monsoon,the state will study the groundwater levels in the dry and parched areas and even take the help of National Rainfed Area Authority for assistance through their for better planning in the rainfed areas.

“We should be able to start the study in six highly affected taluks in October,’’said Chavan.

When asked about whether the state will address the complaints of villagers regarding lack of water levels for digging borewells and wells in many areas,he said that a detailed study and plan to carry out the necessary measures will be taken up in October.

He said that the state governement will distribute a compensation of Rs 580 crore to the drought-affected areas in the district without waiting for the amount to come from centre. “We will start the process so that people are benefitted,’’he said.

The conference was also attended by deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar,revenue minister Balasaheb Thorat,relief and rehabilitation minister Patangrao Kadam,state revenue minister Prakash Solanke and additional chief secretary (revenue) Swadeen Kshatriya.

Speaking about the conference,Chief Minister said that the two-day state revenue meet discussed all the modernisation processes which will be incorporated in the system. Of the 32 issues listed for hearing,almost 24 issues were discussed in the meet. The meet discussed the speeding up of land measurement process and updation of land records. Regulating sand mafia issues through e-tendering process and implementing barcode system were also discussed during the meet.

The online seven by twelve extracts of Nanded,zero pendency system initiated by former district collector Chandrakant Dalvi and being implemented by present collector Vikas Deshmukh,Satara’s semi judicial system,Latur’s effective SETU system which has started nearly 354 services and use of IT by Sindhudurg district collectorate were also presented at the conference. Aurangabad district collector’s Aadhar card distribution sches was also part of the presentation. Chavan called for a collective effort of the collectorate and the divisional commissionerate for better implementation of various schemes.
