State declares financial help to those stranded

Food and accommodation provided at Maharashtra Sadan in Delhi

The Maharashtra government has declared financial aid of Rs 2,000 per head and help with travel arrangements for those going back to their homes in Maharashtra after surviving the Uttarakhand floods.

The money will be distributed from the disaster management cell set up in Dehradun and the Maharashtra Sadan in Delhi,according to an official release issued said on Thursday. Stranded residents can avail the help by producing photocopies of their identity proof,according to Maharashtra Chief Secretary in Delhi and Resident Commissioner Bipin Mallik. Help centres have been also set up at Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway stations by the Maharashtra Information Centre.

Also,the Maharashtra Sadan at Delhi has facilitated accommodation and food facility for the stranded residents on their return journey. Maharashtra Sadan Manager Nitin Gaikwad (cellphone-08447331660) can be contacted for help.

The state government has also opened a camp office in Dehradun to assist all the residents of Maharashtra stranded in Uttarakhand floods.

MLA from Bhosari Vilas Lande told Newsline that all the 100 plus residents from Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad who had been trapped at Uttarakhand are believed to be safe.

Meanwhile,a group of 50 stranded persons,most of them from Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad,reached Maharashtra Sadan on Thursday evening. “We have arranged a special bogie on Goa Express to send them to Pune. The train will leave Delhi at 3.10 p.m. on Friday,” according to the media convenor at Maharashtra Information Centre Ritesh Bhuyar.
