The 24th spring festival organised by the Haryana Urban Development Authority will kick off on Saturday. The two-day fest will host various cultural activities. The function will be inaugurated by Finance Commissioner and Principal Secretary D S Dhesi and showcase various varieties of flowers which including rose,cactus,dahlia,petunia,gladioli,ascer etc. The department has already organised flower arrangements contests.
On Thursday,the focus was on gardens at residences and commercial areas like schools.
Participants also displayed their talent in potted plants category.
The first day of the festival will see competitions like rangoli making,fancy dress,best out-of-waste and painting contest for children. A laughter show will also be held on Saturday. On Sunday,a baby show,mono acting,duet and group dance and kite flying for visitors will be organised. The prize distribution function will also be held on Sunday. The best garden award went to Rajesh Kumar and Hari Ram (two kanal houses),S Puri and Anu Goel (one kanal houses),Renu Aggrawal and Sangita Bhambri (14 marla houses).
In the schools’ categories,Gurukul School,Sector 20,won the first prize in the senior wing and Hallmark School won the second. Satluj Public School won the first prize in primary school category. The first prize in roundabouts maintained by NGOs was won by the Sector 15 roundabout. Venus Remedies Limited won the second prize among industries.
The Tank TCP,Headquarter,Western Command,Chandimandir won the first prize in the best garden in cantonment area at the entry point.
