From over 1,200 students from across 30 schools,seven youngsters from the city have been selected for the final round of the Allianz Junior Football Camp 2011,to be held in Goa. The final overall winner will be sent to Germany to train for two weeks at the Allianz Arena,the ground of Bundesliga club Bayern Munich,to train with the coaches of the club.Open for boys between the ages of 14 and 16,the kids were initially selected by football coaches Mathew Susainathan and Sushil Joseph before the final seven were selected by Pune FC players Arata Izumi,Paresh Shivalkar and Sandesh Gadkari.The winners from the city were Aditya Arun Padwal (Sinhgad Springdale School),Danish Inamdar (SSPMS School),Sushil Sanjay Tujare (Ornellas High School),Bhushan Gaikwad (Rangers School),Jordan Fernandes (Vidya Bhavan),Chirag Shahaney (Hutchings) and Allan Benjamin Gilbert (St Ursulas).

Tennis: Mandada,Gole win titles

Mayank Gole and Shruti Mandada won the men’s and women’s singles titles at the Pune district badminton championships at the Modern PDMBA sports complex,Shivajinagar,on Saturday. Top seed Gole defeated fourth seed Harshad Bhagwat 25-15,25-17 in the men’s final while women’s fourth seed Mandada downed third seed Kalyani Limaye 21-19,21-17 in her final. On Friday,Arya Bhivpathaki (under-13 boys’),Vineet Kamble (under-15 boys’),Sudhanshu Medsikar (under-17 boys’) and Shreeya Mali (under-15 girls’) bagged twin crowns,winning both the singles and doubles titles in their respective age categories. Bhivpathaki missed winning three titles,losing the under-15 singles final to Kamble in straight games.

Meanwhile,Noopur Sahasrabuddhe clinched a ‘doubles double’,partnering Manjusha Sahasrabuddhe to take the women’s doubles crown before winning the mixed doubles title alongside Sameer Bhagwat.

Pune duo for WBF World Senior Championships

Vivek Saraf and Manjusha Sahasrabuddhe,both of Pune,will represent India at the WBF World Senior Championships,which will be held in Richmond,Canada,in August. Both of them have participated in the event twice before,in 2004 and in 2009. Sahasrabuddhe will take part in the over-45 women’s singles and the mixed doubles,where she will partner Punjab’s Ramlakhan. Manjusha bagged silver in the 40+ singles category at Kuala Lumpur and a bronze medal in the 45+ category at Punta Umbria,Spain. Meanwhile,Saraf will feature in the 50+ men’s doubles event alongside Jalgaon’s Sunil Rokade,said a press release.
