The MSLTA School of Tennis under the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association will start a year-long tennis coaching programme for beginners and intermediate students at Shiv Chhatrapathi Sports Complex at Mhalunge Balewadi from April 2. The coaching will be conducted in mornings and evenings. A special coaching programme for adults will also be conducted.

Innocent Heroes NGO Cricket Tournament

Innocent Heroes Foundation and Maharashtra Cricket Association will bring together various NGOs and children from remand homes around Pune to select an inter-NGO cricket team. The selection will take place at PYC Hindu Gymkhana,Pune on April 3 from 8am to 4pm. IHF has been conducting inter NGO cricket tournament since 2009. This year,the format has changed a bit. With due permission from Child and Women Welfare Committee,most of the children will be from Remand Homes instead of regular NGOs. More than 150 children below the age of 15 years will come for selection at PYC Gymkhana. The main objective of this exercise is to shortlist 35 players who are under 15 years.

Nalawade is state wrestling champion

Ranjit Nalawade clinched the prestigious Maharashtra State level Wrestling Championships which concluded in Kolhapur today. Nalawde sponsored by Lakshya – Sahaydri Industries and trained by Harishchandra Birajdar won the 90kg category championships scoring five wins on a trot without conceding a point to his opponent. He was awarded a Gadda (mace) and a Hero Honda Splendour by Harshwardhan Patil,Minister for Parliamentray Affairs.

Pune FC out of IFA Shield

Pune FC’s dreams of reaching their first-ever semifinals ended with a 1-2 loss to Shillong Lajong FC in the final Group-B encounter of the 115th IFA Shield at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan,Kolkata. Needing a point to qualify,PFC ended its campaign by finishing third in the group with six points. Lajong,who needed a win,thus made it to the last-4 as the second placed team of the group behind Mohun Bagan with identical finally tally of 8-points. All goals of the match came in the first half with PFC unluckily finding themselves a goal in arrears through self-goal conceded in the twenty-seventh minute,before PFC striker Mandjou Keita (34th minute) leveled scores.
