Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrated at Southern Command with pride, fervour; wreath-laying ceremony organised

Kargil Vijay Diwas Rajat Jayanti, the silver jubilee of India’s victory in the Kargil War, was celebrated with great pride and fervour by the Southern Command. A wreath-laying ceremony was organised on the occasion at the Southern Command War Memorial in Pune.

“The occasion marks the 25th anniversary of the Indian Army’s glorious victory in the Kargil War, a conflict that is a reminiscence of undaunted bravery and courage of the bravehearts who inscribed a golden chapter in history with their blood and supreme sacrifice,” a press statement from the Southern Command said.

In a solemn ceremony organised at the Command War Memorial, Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, paid his tribute to the valour and sacrifice of our fallen heroes by laying a wreath.

“The event was attended by serving personnel of the Pune Military Station and members of the veteran community, who came together to honour the bravery and sacrifice of the gallant soldiers who fought in the conflict leading to a resounding victory for India,” the release said.

The Southern Command also conducted numerous commemorative events, including bike rallies, tree plantations, ‘veergathas’ (narrations of stories of valour) at schools and colleges where in Kargil War veterans interacted at various locations over the past month. These events aimed to spread the saga of valour to every citizen of the country, celebrating and commemorating the fearless deeds of soldiers.
