After experiment with nature, now next on agenda for software engineer Madhu Sivasubramanian is to paint faces and people

When she is not writing programming codes on the computer,it is the strokes from her brushe on the canvas that occupies her time. And for software engineer Madhu Sivasubramanian, who is working at Cisco, painting and programming provide a satisfaction of a different kind. Sivasubramanian’s creations are currently on display at Malaka Spice in Koregaon Park till April 15.

Though her interest towards the art developed during her childhood itself, the self-taught artist got involved seriously in painting only in the year 2007. This is her second exhibition in the city. “Due to various reasons, painting took a backseat. But now instead of worrying about making a living out of it,I just want to enjoy the process and the journey of painting,” says Sivasubramanian.

Sivasubramanian’s prefers to use watercolour and penwork as her mediums for painting. However, she also admires works of other painters particularly done in charcoal or mixed mediums. She adds,“I like visiting art galleries and study creations by various artists. I particularly like Milind Mullick’s style and technique of painting.”

Commenting on her profession and her hobby, she says,“Both provide two entirely different kinds of creative satisfaction. It gives immense contentment to a software engineer to see people using a software that he or she is associated with, professionally. Similarly, seeing your works at the exhibitions and hearing words of appreciation from the art lovers is very motivating.”

Uptil now Sivasubramanian has painted on subjects that are close to nature like plants, animals, flowers and birds. Very recently she has even started experimenting with faces, some of which can be seen at her on-going exhibition. Speaking about her future plans, she says,“In future, instead of painting just a face and people,I would like to capture the subject in totality,i.e. along with the ambience and the mood.” Also on the cards is her desire to exhibit her works in Mumbai, which she feels is a city that has good art scene. “I am yet to explore the possibilities of exhibiting there though,” she says on a concluding note.

(Sivasubramanian’s work will be are displayed at Malaka Spice ,Lane – 5, North Main Road,Koregaon Park till April 15 from 11 am to 11.30 pm. )
