The elected representatives across parties, including BJP, in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Monday passed a resolution during the general body meeting, urging the state and the union government not to consider PMC and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) as a single entity for the smart
city project.
The resolution to consider PMC and PCMC as different entities was proposed by corporators of the ruling NCP and the Congress in the civic body.
The BJP-led state government had clubbed PMC and PCMC in its list of 10 cities sent to the union government for developing these as smart cities.
“The civic administration should send the copy of the resolution immediately to the state and the union government as per the demands of the corporators,” said deputy mayor Ulhas Bagul, who was chairing the general body meeting in the absence of Mayor Dattatraya Dhankawade.
Earlier, the corporators had pointed out that the union government meeting on the smart city project was likely to be held in the next few days, so the resolution had to be sent immediately.
NCP corporator Vishal Tambe said that the state government had already taken a step ahead by appointing one officer for both PMC and PCMC for implementing the smart city project as against its policy of one officer for each entity, and the general body requested the state government to appoint different officers for the two civic bodies.
