Having served in the Indian Army for 37 years,Pune-based colonel (retd) Vinay Dalvi has used his diverse experience to compile Role Model,a book that not only brings into light the training concepts and methodology of physical and recreational training in the three main pre-commission training institutions— NDA,IMA and OTA but also comes out with some valuable recommendations as corrective measures. The book was released on Saturday at National Defence Academy,Khadakvasla at the Bombay Stadium post the end of the cross country event of the ongoing Inter Academy Hexagonal Sports Meet 2010. The book was released by Lt Gen R S Sujlana (PVSM,AVSM,VSM),Commandant Indian Military Academy,Dehradun. “While serving in the Army I used to write many articles which were brought into the notice of concerned authorities. When I retired in June 2008,I realised that I had a huge collection of informational articles that could be converted into a combined and compact volume for posterity,” says Dalvi adding,“The book highlights the importance of character in the personality development of our young men,particularly those in the Armed Forces who are always expected to be role models to the outside world.” According to Dalvi,besides informative details,the book also provides a list of winners of gallantry awards like Param Vir Chakra and Ashok Chakra. Besides,it has some of the most inspirational quotations and compositions too.
