The Sudarshan Rang Mahotsav 2009,which is going on at the Sudarshan Rangmanch is turning out to be a delight for theatergoers as it is playing host to a number of award-winning plays. The event that began on January 24 will continue right until January 29. The plays that have been showcased till now include,Savlya produced by Maharashtra Cultural Centre,Aatmakatha produced by Aavishkaar of Mumbai and Never Mind also produced by the Maharashtra Cultural Centre. Two one act plays — Na Na Bhole,12,Shani Peth produced by M J College Jalgaon,and Taai produced by St Ursula Mahavidyalaya,Nagpur were staged on January 27. Today,two more prize-winning plays namely,Micky Mouse Restaurant produced by Maharashtra Cultural Centre,and Institute of Pathology produced by BMCC will be staged. Premach Mhanu Yalaa Hava Tar! produced by Miti Chaar of Kalyan,Mumbai,will be staged on January 29.

Age no bar
A 10-year-old may not possibly know the difference between a contemporary or traditional art piece,except for the colours and the shapes. However,it seems Haris Imtiyaz Khan,lovingly addressed as Junior M F Hussain at Aperture India Art Gallery,is different. The young artist recently exhibited his contemporary art collection under the name Master’s Stroke at the Aperture India Art Gallery. The exhibition was inaugurated by Mayor Rajlakshmi Bhonsale. This is the first exhibition where he has displayed his contemporay art. “He used to make portraits of Mahatma Gandhi earlier and has recently taken up contemporary art. His father is a poet and he listens to his poetry and also to Mirza Ghalib and then he tries to put the emotions on canvas. Therefore,most of his paintings are a mixture of pain and hope,” says Huma Khan,his mother.

Spring-cleaning!
Apra cubs,a group comprising of children from Anand Park,Aundh in the age group of 8-14 years undertook a drive to clean the surroundings around Anand Park on January 26. The aim of the group is to rid the society surroundings of the thrash strewn all around. They were equipped with hand held spikes,bin bags and gloves for this purpose. The children were segregated into two groups namely the Lion Cubs and the Leopard Cubs and were in charge of cleaning lanes 1,2,3,and 4,5,6,respectively. The young,motivated volunteers worked in tandem with other members of society.
