Hailing the power of feminism,Film and Television of India and UTV World Movies have jointly organised a two-day women's film festival at the Main Theatre of FTII on March 29 and 30.

Hailing the power of feminism,Film and Television of India (FTII) and UTV World Movies have jointly organised a two-day women’s film festival at the Main Theatre of FTII on March 29 and 30. The screenings for the festival are being held at 5 pm on both the days. Two films — Eight Women (French,105 minutes) directed by Francois Ozon and Off Side (Persian,93 minutes) directed by Jafar Panahi was screened on March 29. And another two films – The Circle (Persian,90 minutes) directed by Jafar Panahi and Blue Sparrow (Korean,133 minutes) directed by Jong-chan Yun will be screeened today. Eight Women is a suspense thriller in which there are eight women and one murdered man in an isolated house,where one of the women is the murderer. The Circle is about a group of Iranian girls attempting to enter Tehran’s Azadi Stadium dressed as boys in order to watch a big football match. After the establishment of the Islamic Republic in Iran,women are not allowed to enter the stadiums. Off Side is Jafar Panahi’s excellent narration on the general condition of women in Iran,which shifts dynamically from woman to woman,their stories culminating with tremendous potency,transforming a shared sense of despair and injustice into one kinship and hope.

Girls’ talk
Its all been said and done-give equal rights to children,do not discriminate between boys and girls and so on,but the Inner Wheel Club of Pune Midtown,took it a step further when they decided to felicitate those couples who had a single girl child,on Saturday at the Jain Hostel Lawns near BMCC. Speaking more about the event,club president,Jagruti Malviya,says,”The main aim behind this event was to honour those couples who had just one girl child and were very happy and proud of their child. A total of 72 couples were felicitated wherein they were given a memento. The chief guest for the event was noted gynecologist Dr Aruna Umranikar,and the guest of honour for the evening was Madhuri Desai,CEO of Bank of Maharashtra. Umranikar,leading Gyaneacologist urged the community to ensure fermale to male ration improves in India and in coming decade there must be a one boy to one girl. Priya Hemmady,who is detected with breast cancer made an emotional comment when her only daughter who is 11 years old is taking care of her and fullfilling the role of her husband who works abroad.
