Sensible cinema
Friday afternoon saw the screening of the film Gabhricha Paus (The Damned Rain) at City Pride Multiplex in Kothrud,as part of the Marathi Chitrapat Mahotsav film festival scheduled begin today. The film,which stars Girish Kulkarni,Sonali Kulkarni,Jyoti Subhash and Veena Jankar,gives an insight into the life of a farmer and the role that the rains play in his life. It also touches the sensitive topic of farmer suicides. The movie recently was awarded a grant by the Hubert Bals fund of the International Film Festival of Rotterdam for its distribution in India. Speaking on the occasion,Satish Manwar,director,said,”I kept hearing about the suicide of the farmers,and being from the same area (Vidarbha) myself,I was moved and realised that I was utterly helpless. I wanted to express it and found film an appropriate medium to express myself.” The film,which has won various awards in film festivals in India as well as abroad,is expected to release in theatres all over Maharashtra in June.

Walking the ramp will be well-known faces such as Manasi Dekhate,Jasmeet Maru,Nishita Motiwalla,Kriti Kapoor,Shweta Parmar,Aubaid Wani,Sufzal Saleem and Nitin Phand. Choreographed by Sandeep Dharma,the show is all set to be the talking point in the city’s fashion circles in the coming days.
