Small, consistent efforts will carry you: Big B

Amitabh Bachchan entralled the students with instances from his own life to prove his point that there should be “will and desire” to go ahead in life. “Small but consistent efforts will take you to the target,” was the message he gave in his 30-minute speech.

“My father’s will power impressed me a lot and the instances that he shared with me guide me even today. Once my father had an assignment of writing Pt Nehru’s biography that had a strict deadline.

He used to write in a room where no family member was allowed.

Once when he did not come out of his room for a long time,I went in and saw him dipping his left hand in warm water. When I asked about it,he said he wrote with his right hand and transferred the pain in that hand to the left hand through my willpower,” he said.

He said his father once brought a huge rock near the gate of his home to make painting on it from forest that was around three miles far.

“When I asked him how did he bring it,he said while going for morning walk he used to push the rock two inches daily. In five months he was successful in bringing the huge rock at the gates of our house. I always see some trend in these instances — taking small step will help reach the desired end.”

About his acting,he said he learnt it through experience. “However, had there been any acting institute,I would have loved to go there. I would have definitely been a better actor. As far as my roles are concerned,I love every role, but I hope somebody somewhere may be thinking of a challenging role for me,” he said.

The actor termed cinema as a tool of integration. “When people go watch a movie they do not bother whether the person next to them is a Hindu or a Muslim or of a particular caste or colour,” he said.
