With the arrests of six persons with the possession of firearms along the Mutha river at 10.40 pm on Wednesday,the Deccan Gymkhana police claim to have foiled their plan to murder a rival gangster.
The police said that the arrested are associated with the Ganesh Marne gang. They allegedly wanted money to eliminate a gangster Rahul Kandhare as per the instructions of Marne. Hence,they planned to loot the stalls at the chowpati along the Mutha river in Deccan Gymkhana,but were nabbed by the police.
The arrested include four history sheeters identified as Amol Dnyaneshwar Shinde (24),Rahul Laxman Balkawde (19),Vitthal Mahadev Shelar (23),all residents of Mulshi and Swapnil Chandrakant Dhende (26) of Karve Road.
The other two suspects Sharad Shankar Shirke (24) of Mulshi and Rahul Duttatraya Shinde (22) of Karve Nagar.
The police team on nakabandi operation nabbed the accused who were moving suspiciously on three motorcycles on the road across the river. The police have recovered two country-made revolvers,eight cartridges,four sickles and one rambo knife from them.
The police said that the primary investigation has revealed that Ganesh Marne had asked the suspects to murder a rival gang member Rahul Kandhare,an accused in the Mohan Mankar murder case.
Now,the police are on the look out for a Bihar-based weapon dealer from whom the suspects had purchased the fire arms.
The police team that made the arrests included senior inspector Jaywant Deshmukh,sub inspector Rajendra Patil,havaldars Satish Kulkarni,Mohan Walke,Sandesh Langhi,Mahesh Nimbalkar,Santosh Dolas,Krishnakant Desai and Satish Bhalerao.
