Tamil poet Salma has had an adventurous life,with a difference. Born into a conservative Muslim family in Tamil Nadu in 1968,she was locked up by her family for 25 years,forbidden to study and forced into marriage. Today,she is chairperson of the Social Welfare Board of Tamil Nadu as well as one of the most widely translated poets of our times. Salma,a documentary on her by Kim Longinotto will be screened at the India Habitat Centre,Lodhi Road,on October 15 at 7 pm.

After she watched Aparna Sens The Japanese Wife,about a Japanese girl who falls in love with a Bengali teacher through letters,artist Rini Dhumal was moved. She followed up on her cinematic curiosity with Rituparno Ghoshs Chitrangada.
