Sena-BJP-RPI alliance have an upper hand

This panel is dominated by the middle class and lower middle class. It has been formed by merging the electoral wards of – Yerawada Prison Press and Nagpur Chawl. They are presently represented by Shiv Sena corporator Sagar Malkar and RPI corporator Siddarth Dhende.

Since both RPI and Shiv Sena have joined hands at the state-level,the full strength of the Shiv Sena-BJP-RPI alliance would be on display in this panel. The panel includes the entire Nagpur Chawl electoral ward and just over half of the area that was in Yerawada Prison Press electoral ward. The Nagpur Chawl ward was earlier reserved for Schedule Caste, but now the two seats in the current panel are marked open category with one of them reserved for open category women.

In alliance, the RPI is sure of claiming the seat in the seat-sharing arrangement. “The RPI has a strong presence in the entire panel. I was elected on RPI ticket in previous election from Nagpur Chawl ward while the RPI candidate lost by mere six votes to the Sena candidate in Yerawada Prison Press ward,” said RPI corporator Siddarth Dhende. The party is confident of winning the two seats due to strong support base in the panel,he said.

However, the local Shiv Sena unit is not ready to give up the existing hold by not contesting the seat. “The Shiv Sena has increased its base in the area. We would ask the party to stake claim on the seat in the seat-sharing arrangement,” said a Sena leader.

The Congress and the NCP might try to benefit from the frictions in the Sena-BJP-RPI alliance in the panel. The NCP displayed its increasing strength in the area by getting Bapu Pathare elected in the assembly polls from the Wadgaonsheri constituency. This panel is a part of the constitutency.

The NCP,led by Pathare, would try to get the seat in its kitty. “We have aspirants for the panel, but we can consider someone even from other partes if they have hold in the area,” said Pathare.
