After the anti-encroachment drive at Katraj hill slopes against 22 unoccupied structures on May 12,the administration has now issued notices to the owners to pull down the remaining structures themselves so that they dont pose any threat to other standing structures in monsoon.
We issued notices on Thursday to all owners stating it is the responsibility of owners to pull down the structures completely, lest they pose a threat to other structures in the vicinity, said SK Parab,Naib Tehsildar,Haveli.
The administration has issued 102 notices to illegal constructions in Wagholi area, but are not giving details on the action they would take, and the reason is believed to be that the government is yet to clear bills for equipment used for pulling down illegal structures in Katraj area. With monsoon in and other residents complaining, the district administration seems to have taken a stand that would clear them of the responsibility. Thegovernment is yet to clear a bill of Rs 5.22 lakh incurred on equipment and contract labourers deployed in the recent drive. Parab said the administration is facing immense pressure from contractors for pending dues.
We are willing to conduct clean-up operations but the government seems hardly interested in clearing the bills, says Parab who says he has to face numerous queries on the dues every day. We are tired and there is no response to our numerous appeals to the government to clear separate staff for such drives.
District officials maintain it is essential to have a separate task force for such drives and the government should clear the amount fast. The drive on May 12 in Katraj-Ambegaon area employed 225 labourers to pull down 22 structures. Some district administration officers maintained it is practically impossible to hire equipment again without clearing dues. It is best the owners clear it, said the officer.
The drive in the district is to be carried out in other areas like Undri,Wagholi,Kothrud,Khadakwasla,Khed-Shivapur,Bhosari,Chinchwad,Rahatni and Moshi for breach of Section 44 of the Land Revenue Code where offenders are to face punitive action under Section 45 (2). Continuing their drive, the administration has, meanwhile, issued 102 notices to illegal structures in Wagholi area. There are plenty of such structures which have been cleared in Gunthewari and all this is illegal. We can only take action against these structures if the government clears the staff and clears pending dues. The district administration maintained that it had sent three letters to the Revenue Department for extra staff and a separate team for such drives. They havent received a response yet,the administration claimed. The letter to the Revenue and Forest Department states that a separate tehsildar, naib tehsildars, clerks and staff should be assigned to pull down structures and funds must be cleared to get the required machinery and speed up such drives.
