With the Indian team taking a beating at the recently concluded Asia Cup in Bangladesh, former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev on Monday said senior cricketers, selectors and officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should examine the poor performance of the team.

Replying to a question about the poor performance of the Indian cricket team in Australia and Bangladesh,Kapil Dev said it was the responsibility of selectors and the Board to look into the issue.

The former skipper was speaking on the sidelines of a motivational lecture at the National Defence Academy (NDA).

Youth should be motivated to join the Indian Army,he said, adding that NDA cadets have important responsibilities to shoulder in defending the country.

The former Indian captain said his visit to the NDA was part of an effort to motivate cadets to inculcate more leadership qualities.

He said he had also visited Indian Military Academy (IMA),Dehradun,as part of the campaign to help build leadership skills in the Army.

He also added that in case the Army wanted him to tour further, including insurgency ridden areas of North East,he was ready to undertake such tours.

“I was recently at Dehradun to motivate the future officers. During their stay, the NDA cadets face the toughest kind of training and they need to be motivated to realise the strengths of being a part of the Army,” he said.

Kapil Dev added that joining Army should be seen as duty of every youth. “NDA cadets are the cream and they represent the future of our country.”

Former Indian captain who has been commissioned as Lieutant Colonel in the Army said cadets require the right kind of motivation for better delivery.

But he refused to comment on whether the ongoing controversies regarding corruption in Indian Army have any impact on training of cadets and their motivation level. Instead,he put the onus on the media, saying media should talk about right kind of issues.
