Academician and clinician Dr Parag Sancheti,chairman of Sancheti Hospital,was recently bestowed with honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) for his research and academic work in the field of orthopedics.

Academician and clinician Dr Parag Sancheti,chairman of Sancheti Hospital,was recently bestowed with honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) for his research and academic work in the field of orthopedics. Dr Ian Ritchie,president of Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh,UK,handed over the award. The degree,which qualifies Dr Sancheti to practice in the UK,was also given in recognition for being invited as faculty at Dundee University,UK,consistently for the last eight years. The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh has more than 19,000 fellows and members across 100 countries.

Healing Hands

A retired 70-year-old teacher suffering from Lateral Medullary Syndrome (LMS) was successfully treated at Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital. LMS is a condition in which the patient has a constellation of neurologic symptoms due to ischaemic injury to the lateral part of the medulla in the brain. Dr Mona Thakre,neurologist at the hospital,said the patient complained of giddiness and cough,one afternoon. “He was was taken to a hospital in Solapur where an MRI revealed a brain tumour. He was admitted at Aditya Birla Hospital on March 26. The MRI revealed a stroke in the small brain called medulla. We immediately shifted him to ICU. Currently,the patient is conscious and in good health. His chest is clear and he can walk with a little support. He is also able to eat normally,” she added.
