The centuries old tradition of the Palkhis of Sant Tuikaram and Sant Dynaneshwar that traverse through the city will see a slight change in the route that they take to enter the city this year. The Palkhi of Sant Dnyaneshwar starts from Alandi while that of Sant Tukaram starts from Dehu. This year the route of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharajs Palkhi will be marginally altered, which will affect its meeting the Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi all the way from Mariaai Gate Chowk to the College of Engineering,Pune (COEP) Chowk. The total number of devotees to march along the Palkhi route is expected to be two-and-a-half lakhs. The two Palkhis will reach Pune on June 13. Speaking about the route change, one of the PMC officials stated,Last year the Palkhi of Dnyaneshwar Maharaj entered through Wakdewadi, but it’s going to take a different route this year. Instead of taking its age-old route from Mula road to Mariaai Gate Chowk via Holkar bridge, the Palkhi of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj will take the newly-constructed road from Sangamwadi via New Sangam Bridge to Wakdewadi. The two palkhis will be greeted by the Mayor Vaishali Bankar at Bopodi Gaothan and Harris Bridge as against the traditional entry point of Dehu road.
