You have been occupied with Kajraare for a long time now. What delayed the film?
I have been trained by my father (Mahesh Bhatt) and uncle (Mukesh Bhatt) to have a quick turnover. But when I took up this film Himesh was doing three films simultaneously. Also the movie begins in London, goes to Jordon, then to Pakistan and Dubai. Shooting was tricky because of the seasons. But the story is set in a timeless zone. Hence it will not have a dated look.

What were your reasons for casting Himesh Reshammiya, who is known more for his music than his acting?
Honestly,I did not cast him,he cast me. It was T-series and Himesh that decided to do a certain number of movies together and they wanted my father and me to work on those films. Himesh is smart. He wanted someone who would have been able to project him to the world in a way he hasn’t been earlier. And I do take pride in how I project my actors and this is what Himesh tapped.

Giving breaks to new actors has been your forte. Don’t you think casting established stars would make a difference to your films?
My dad had once told me,“Let’s not chase stars, let’s create them and then move on.” New actors have a kind of passion, hunger, anxiety and desire to leave a mark. They come with no preconceived notions. So why should we start toning down the element that made us popular just because the business trend says so. I am just learning the ropes of direction, but I am a good producer. All that eludes me is a hit. I do films faster and cheaper than my dad did.

You have just announced Jism 2. Why a sequel after seven years?
We are taking the brand forward. The theme of the human heart in conflict will remain the same. Jism portrayed love as we actually experience it in real life. Over the years, many have attempted the genre, but there is nothing that can hold a candle to Jism. So I need to bring it back as a brand.

How are you taking the plot forward?
This time it is a love triangle, with two boys and a girl. While the boys are diametrically opposite,I am looking for a heroine who is both a girl and a woman. My father is writing the script and it should be ready by the first week of May.

Why make it in 3D?
We are toying with the idea. I haven’t finalised it yet. Jism has already given us a captive audience. I don’t want to neutralise that by adding a gimmick. I am right now talking to professionals about how 3D can enhance my script. If it’s taking away from the script,I won’t have it.

You have always worked with unconventional subjects. What about rom-coms?
Rom-coms need to have big names. People don’t watch simple tales starring nobodies. Right now,I don’t have the energy. But one thing I would love to do is children’s films.

It’s been ten long years since you last faced the camera. Would you consider acting again?
To be on the sets today and not worry about 100 things but just focus on one’s lines would be like going on a vacation. But unless it’s a part that will let me grow,I will not do it. Also,at 38 one needs to play one’s part.
