The Pimpri Chinchwad police recently arrested two men after it was revealed that they dumped a woman’s body in the Indrayani River on Talegaon Chakan Road in Pune. The two have also been accused of drowning two minor kids – aged 18 months and three years – of the woman in the river. The two accused have been identified as Gajendra Dagadkhair, the woman’s lover, and his friend, Ravikant Gaikwad. The police said they found out that the body was dumped while investigating a missing complaint about the woman lodged at the Talegaon MIDC police station two weeks ago. DCP Bapu Bangar said, “A missing person’s case was registered at Talegaon MIDC police station. During the investigation, it was found that the woman’s lover had sent her to Thane with his friend for an abortion. The woman is believed to have died during the procedure. Subsequently, the lover’s friend brought back the body and the woman’s two children, and with the help of the lover, disposed of the body in the Indrayani in the early hours of July 9.” He added, “When the children witnessed the incident and started crying, they were also thrown alive into the river. A case has been registered at Talegaon MIDC Police Station.” ACP Devidas Gheware said, “A search is on for the woman’s body and her two children.” The police said they were also probing the possibility that the abortion procedure was conducted illegally.
