The city continued to scorch as the maximum temperature remained above the 40-degrees Celsius mark for the second consecutive day on Friday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted Pune would continue to experience hot weather for the next few days as the maximum temperature would continue to hover above the 40 degrees-mark. On Friday, Shivajinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 40.8 degree Celsius, slightly lower than the 41 degrees Celsius recorded a day ago.
Koregaon Park was the hottest in the city on Friday, recording a maximum temperature of 41.8 degrees Celsius. Other than Koregaon Park , Dudulgaon (42), Magarpatta (41.4), Chinchwad (40.8) and Pashan (40.7) also remained relatively hot.
Even rural parts of Pune district recorded maximum temperatures above 40 degrees—Daund (41.2), Ambegaon (41.2), Rajgurunagar(42.2), Khed (41.4) and Baramati (40.2).
On Friday, the “very severe” cyclone Mocha developed over the central Bay of Bengal turned into an “extremely severe” cyclone. It is expected to cross south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh and Sittwe in Myanmar late on Friday night.
Some parts of India have been receiving rainfall due to the cyclone. Meanwhile, the IMD has issued heat wave warnings for Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan. The temperature, IMD said, would remain high especially during day time. There will also be a surge in the night time temperature.
