Pune Railway Station is set to partner with JioThings Limited, a subsidiary of Jio Platforms Limited, for a one-month pilot project aimed at installing four AI-based Internet Protocol (IP) Cameras to enhance surveillance in the station.

There will be four cameras installed, one at the entrance, one at the exit and two in the Public Reservation System (PRS). The pilot project will last 30 days, and will start roughly within the next 15 days, an official told The Indian Express.

According to the Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM), Ramdas Bhise, the private company came up with seven proposals, one among which, was the surveillance solution. The approval has been given, and after evaluating the feasibility and modality of its performance, the project will be finalised.

“The project’s expenditures and resources for control units such as electricity, hardware and so on will be afforded by the company itself. Within 15 days, the cameras will be installed and then the company will keep vigilance for 30 days,” Bhise said.  “The company also has to provide us with the regular periodic data in those 30 days for the evaluation of the outcome.”

The DCM added that the AI cameras would monitor the queue at PRS, and would help in identifying touts. The camera’s capacity to scan the temperature and emotions of the people can help to recognize the illegal ticket sellers. Additionally, the number of passengers present in a particular area can also be counted for the management of the railway.

According to the railway’s official data, there are currently 61 high-quality CCTV cameras installed in the premises of the Pune railway station, and 65 more are to be installed by March next year.

Jio Platform has also offered the Pune Division six other digital solutions to the such as a sub-metering solution, a lightening automation solution, a water pump automation solution, a signage solution and an air conditioner automation solution, said officials.
