The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Pune police again recorded Sheetal Tejwani’s statement on Thursday in the Pune land deal case linked to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s son Parth Pawar’s firm. The police first recorded Tejwani’s statement on Tuesday. She held power of attorney for the 272 original watandars whose land was sold to Pawar’s firm Amadea Enterprises LLP in contravention of rules, according to the District Collector.

Tejwani was present at the Commissioner’s Office for more than four hours. Pune Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar said the police won’t disclose the content of the statement recorded at this stage. He told The Indian Express, “We are verifying whatever she says or the documents she has supplied or whatever we have got from the concerned government department and office. The investigation is ongoing.”

When asked if the other accused will similarly be called for questioning, he said, “We are investigating the case from all angles and all concerned shall be called at the appropriate time.”

Tejwani, Parth Pawar’s partner Digvijay Patil, suspended tehsildar Suryakant Yewale, and others have been accused of wrongdoing in the Mundhwa land deal case — a controversial Rs 300-crore deal between Amadea Enterprises LLP, in which Parth Pawar holds 99 per cent stake, and Tejwani. The stamp duty on the transaction was also controversially waived off. The plot had been taken over by the government decades ago and leased to the Botanical Survey of India till 2038.

In the Bopodi case, the FIR states that the accused Hemant Gawande, Rajendra Vidhwans, Rushikesh Vidhwans, Mangal Vidhwans, Vidyanand Puranik and Jayashree Ekbote allegedly sought wrongful possession of government owned land in Bopodi. Yewale has been named in this case as well, although he has maintained that he is innocent, and has been granted interim bail by a local court.
