Ongoing road work on Lane 7, Prabhat Road. Sandeep Daundkar
The work on Prabhat Road, Lane 7, that was earlier going on at a snail’s pace has picked up speed in the past two days, according to residents.
On March 26, Pune Newsline had reported that the entire stretch of the road had been dug up and it had turned into a cause of concern for residents who were not able to step out, especially senior residents and physically-challenged ones.

MNS corporator Anil Rane, said, ‘’I called a meeting with the contractor the day the news was reported. Prior to that too, I was following up with them, but that day I gave them a final warning to complete the work on Prabhat Road on a priority basis. There has been a lack of co-ordination between the contractor and the workers. Also, one more issue which delayed the process was that we had to dig the road one-and-a-half feet because of some connection problems that had to be cleared, according to the demands of the residents.”
Rane added, “When you build something from scratch, it takes time, but now the speed of the work has increased after the contractor was given an
ultimatum.”
Rane added that the road was expected to be concretised by coming Saturday and would then be ready for vehicles. The side blocks where the pipes and connection lines are to be put will be complete in the next eight to 10 days. Till then, for the convenience of the residents, a ramp will be built in front of every society so that the concrete road is accessible. The whole stretch would be completed by April 10, Rane said.
Bhushan Garge, one of the residents, said, “We have noticed that the road work has picked up speed.”
Garge had been particularly disturbed with the road work. His 15-year-old son, who has been wheelchair-bound since the past five years due to a medical condition and is giving his board examinations currently, had been struggling to reach the examination centre, every day.
