Project to streamline PDS remains a non-starter

Project:Digitisation of ration cards with details of over 1,000-odd fair price shops in the eight zones. Pune district was to be the first in the state to implement the unique project that was to streamline the Public Distribution System. State was to allocate funds for the project.

Facility:It was supposed to revolutionise the Public Distribution System and weed out bogus ration cards. However,of the 9 lakh ration cards,only 2 lakh ration cards were checked. Though work was supposed to start in June,the verification is yet be completed.

Present status:The data for digitisation process is yet to be collected and keyed in. The process has not taken off and the much announced pilot project remains a non-starter.
