Problem continues on old highway

There seems to be no end to problems for the old Pune-Mumbai highway, which has two lanes on most parts and only one lane on some patches.

A senior officer with the State Highway Police (SHP) said,“The notification that has come for the Pune district needs to be brought out for all the highways in the state. We feel that the necessary infrastructural changes should be carried out.”

Prashant Mohite,SP with the Thane division of the SHP said,“On most part of the stretch, the old highway has two lanes on one direction. In some patches, specially in the Ghat section it shrinks to one lane. Implementing the lane discipline is always a challenge but its needs to be done on priority basis.”

Sub inspector L V Bhosale, who is in-charge of the Borghat section of the highway police said,“Another important requirement for maintaining lane discipline is having medians (road dividers) without breaks. IN the absence of road dividers, vehicles tend to crossover to opposite lanes. Vehicles get plenty of room to flout lane norms then.”
