‘Private Universities Bill will be signed soon’

Maharashtra Governor and Chancellor of universities K Sankaranarayanan on Tuesday assured that he will not make any further delay in signing the Private Universities Bill the state legislature passed over a year ago. The Bill has been pending his consent ever since.

Sankaranarayanan inaugurated new building of the Department of Law and attended the foundation ceremony of the Academic Staff Hostel at University of Pune campus.

“The Private Universities Bill or the Self Financed Universities’ Bill will be signed with no further delay. I will soon pass my suggestions on the provision of reservation in the Bill,”said the Governor.

The Bill will open a slew of opportunities for students in the state. It will pave the way for setting up of private universities in engineering,technology,management,business and commerce faculties. The Bill also offers universities an autonomous entity status with minimum regulatory interference in formation and functioning.

When asked about the educational reforms bills that the state government plans to bring,he said,“These Bills will have a long-lasting effect on the educational sector. We will have to be very careful with them and take a decision only after thorough deliberations,which will take some time.”

Addressing the law students,Sankaranarayanan said law students should always prefer to get work satisfaction than just earn money.

“You are the protectors of the Constitution and the Law. You should always keep in mind that the future of the country is in your hands,” he said.
