Pre-monsoon showers are posing a tough time for civic authorities with fire brigade reporting no less than 80 incidents of tree felling due to stormy weather in two days. On Monday and Tuesday, the premonsoon showers that lashed the city brought down a number of trees.
However, the leaves and branches of the fallen tress are been taken away by the garden department for composting.
Over the last couple days,we have been getting calls regarding the fallen trees. Such calls are still coming in, Prashant Ranpise, fire brigade chief, said. However, the leaves and branches cannot be dumped in the garbage bins. After the trees are removed and ways are cleared,we give the custody of the trees and branches to the garden department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Ranpise said.
Even though carrying the trees is a difficult task,we have started using the leaves of these trees for converting it into compost manure. It will prove beneficial later, Bhanudas Mane, garden superintendent, said.
