6,000 strong police deployment in Pune city for Ganesh immersion procession

About 6,000 police personnel have been deployed at different locations in Pune city to maintain law and order during Ganesh immersion processions scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday.

As per the security deployment plan released by the Pune city police, four additional commissioners, 10 deputy commissioners, 25 assistant commissioners, 136 police inspectors, 653 assistant and sub-inspectors, 5,709 constabulary, a company of state reserve police force (SRPF) and 394 home guards would be on duty, mainly in the central part of the city, to control the crowd and prevent untoward incidents during immersion processions.

Teams of swimmers from local groups will also be present to help devotees in immersion. Pune city has over 1,750 registered Ganesh Mandals.

The police said 206 CCTV cameras have been arranged on the main immersion procession routes. Also, the Bomb Detection And Disposal Squad (BDDS), 12 Quick Response Teams (QRTs), and Riot Control Vehicles would be in place at strategic locations.

The police have also warned legal action as per Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against those found filming Ganesh immersion processions using drones without permission.

The Pune city police have laid down a procedure for obtaining permission to fly drones. Those who want to do video recording with drones in the jurisdiction of Pune city police should submit their applications to the deputy commissioner of police (special branch). Permission would be granted after conducting essential verifications, the police said.

Meanwhile, about 2,000 police personnel are being deployed by the Pune rural police for Ganesh immersion processions in the Pune district.

Pankaj Deshmukh, Superintendent, Pune rural police, said that along with senior officers, 200 inspectors, 1,600 constabulary, and one SRPF company will be on duty in the Pune district for Ganesh immersion processions on Tuesday.

Similarly, the police force is also being deployed in the jurisdiction of the Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate on the Ganesh immersion procession day.
