Police chowky needed,say cops

With IT businesses and housing colonies growing,Kharadi is expanding at a rapid pace and so are problems of the police. The cops are finding it tough keeping vigil and say that the need of a police chowky in the area is being acutely felt.

Police say difficulty in patrolling the vast area, besides the increasing number of accidents are of major concern to them.

“There are many posh colonies coming up. On the other hand, the hutments in shanty towns are growing, too. The streets in this area are not properly built. We face a lot of difficulty in our daily patrol duties,” says an officer with Yerawada police station, under which the area falls.

Vishwanath Ghanwat, inspector (crime) with Yerawada police station, says,“At present,Shivrana police chowky caters to Kharadi. Looking at the widening limits of area,we feel it badly needs a police chowky.”

An officer said that a chowky is the basic unit of police presence in any area. A growing suburb like Kharadi needs a chowky, more so as crimes in the area are also growing, said an officer.

Ghanwat said,“Construction work has been going on along Kharadi bypass for the last two years. The incomplete work is resulting into more accidents on the road. This is another reason the area badly needs a chowky.”

Records also how that there has been an increase in number of house break-ins in the last few months. Ghanwat added that security of residential complexes is also an important issue in the ares and needs to be addressed.
