Continuing its initiative to spread environmental awareness by celebrating festivals in eco-friendly manner,the state social forest department has organised ‘Vanamahotsav’ on Wednesday which,apart from tree plantation,will have girl students tying handmade rakhis to heritage sites.

The National Green Corps,set up by the department,has ecoclubs in 8,898 schools across the state. Street plays,dramas and recitation of songs,related to importance of trees in our lives,would also be included in Vanamahotsav.

The department has organised a tree plantation programme at Empress Gardens where about 25 women,including Pune mayor,would create a ‘nakshatra van’.
