His exploits in colour,texture and treatment of subjects in his riveting paintings are now part of art legend. Apart from being a magic realist of rare brilliance,Ravi Paranjape has also left his unique imprint on disciplines as diverse as architectural illustrations,advertising and display art.

However,I was trained to be a painter and despite having explored display art,illustrations and advertising,I was more than happy to get back to painting at the first real opportunity, informs the artist,famed for creating beautiful melodies with his artworks.

Although I started painting in 1958,my first exhibition was held in 1980. It was a difficult start to my creative pursuits and I did not get much encouragement from the powers-that-be. Despite all this,though,its been a memorable journey and an eventful 74 years, says Paranjape.

To mark the occasion,the Ravi Paranjape Amrut Mahotsav Samiti has organised an art exhibition,that will feature works of 26 contemporary representational artists from across Maharashtra.

Titled Sagun-Nirgun,A Representation Art Show,it will be on at the Balgandharva Kaladalan from October 10 to 13,from 10 am to 8.30 pm.

Featuring works by artists,some of whom are contemporaries of Paranjape,

while others belong to the younger generation,Sagun-Nirgun,according to

Paranjape,reflects the true spirit behind the world of Representational Art,that represents the inseparable combination of form and content.

It embodies the union of the subject and the mode of painting with a contemporary fervour and is like the sight of an oasis in the wilderness of tradition-less and anti-chaste contemporary art today, adds Paranjape.
