PCMC to act against non-compliant RMC plants after MPCB flags violations

The move follows a communication from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), which has shared a list of 30 RMC units operating without adequate dust and emissions control systems, the civic administration said in a press release.

The civic administration of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to initiate action against Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) plants that have failed to implement mandatory pollution-control measures.

The move follows a communication from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), which has shared a list of 30 RMC units operating without adequate dust and emissions control systems, the civic administration said in a press release.

While RMC plants receive operational approvals from MPCB, several units were found disregarding essential pollution mitigation norms, leading to recurring complaints of air quality deterioration. Acting on these grievances, MPCB has directed PCMC to seal non-compliant units until they meet prescribed standards.

PCMC officials confirmed that field inspections will begin immediately. Plants lacking water-sprinkling systems, enclosed mixing operations, proper covering of material transport vehicles, and noise-control arrangements will face closure. The civic body has emphasised that ensuring clean air for residents remains a top priority.

PCMC has already activated the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) for seasonal air-quality management and deployed two dedicated nuisance-detector squads to monitor environmental violations across all zones. Action against erring RMC plants will now be carried out as part of this ongoing crackdown.

“Protecting the health of our citizens and the environment requires strict adherence to pollution-control norms. PCMC’s teams are actively inspecting sites, and any RMC unit operating without functional air-pollution control systems will face action. We have launched an enforcement drive following MPCB’s communication, said Vijaykumar Khorate, Additional Commissioner.

“PCMC is committed to improving air quality and ensuring a pollution-free urban environment. Compliance from RMC operators is non-negotiable, and violations will not be overlooked. Safeguarding public health and the local ecosystems is our foremost responsibility,” said Sanjay Kulkarni, Chief Engineer.
