Pawars continue to back each other despite warring NCPs

Days after Nationalist Congress Party (SP) Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule indirectly backed her estranged nephew Parth Pawar in a land deal undertaken by a company linked to him in Pune, NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar came out in support of Parth’s father — NCP chief and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar after the video of a BJP leader mocking him went viral.

Even as the Opposition parties in Maharashtra attack the ruling Mahayuti over an alleged land scam ahead of the upcoming local body elections, Pawar family members continue to back each other, despite being from opposite sides.

Former NCP MLA Rajan Patil from Solapur district, who recently joined the BJP and won the Angar municipal panchayat poll unopposed after the nomination of NCP candidate was termed invalid, shared a video of celebration on social media. During the celebration, Patil’s son Balraje Patil, was seen mocking Ajit Pawar, using disrespectful words, asking him to not mess with his family.

Rohit Pawar jump in to support his uncle Ajit Pawar, and said, addressing Rajan Patil, “You are a senior leader but it was sad to see the video of your son where he mocked Ajitdada. Such language was never used against the Opposition when we were in power as undivided NCP. Your son might now be knowing that the power which brings this arrogance can easily be lost. Tell him to take it slow, as the BJP’s power built on the foundation of vote chori can collapse anytime.”

Pawar further warned that once a person joins the BJP, the political culture and “Maharashtra dharma” is forgotten. “It is expected that you will make him understand this in approrpriate manner,” Pawar added.

Patil and his son have since apologised to Ajit Pawar. In his apology, Patil said that his son said something, which should not have been said in the course of celebrations and overflowing emotions. “I wholeheartedly apologise to Ajitdada and to the entire Pawar family and bow down in front of senior Pawar (Sharad Pawar). I request all to stop discussion on this topic. I also request Ajitdada to let off Balraje by treating him like his sons Parth and Jai,” said Patil.
