Passionate Performances

Sachin Gupta exploded onto the Bollywood music scene in 2006,when he composed the music for Atif Aslam’s single Doorie.

Gupta,a music director who also sings and pens down lyrics, believes that music in any form should be created from the heart

Sachin Gupta exploded onto the Bollywood music scene in 2006,when he composed the music for Atif Aslam’s single Doorie. The song became a huge hit, which eventually ensured that Gupta had officially arrived with a firm footing,in tinsel town.

Post Doorie his first major film project was Dil Kabaddi in 2008,which featured an ensemble cast that included Rahul Bose,Konkona Sen Sharma,Soha Ali Khan and Irrfan Khan. Gupta not only composed the music for the film, but also wrote the lyrics for all the songs and lent his voice to the soundtrack.

In response to him filing in the shoes of the singer for his songs he says,“I keep clarifying to everyone that I am not a singer and will never be a singer,” adding,“I just sing from my heart, and if it sounds good enough to use in a movie, then so be it.”

After Bolo Raam and Jugaad in 2009,Gupta got a big break this year with the movie Prince, which released last month. The song Tere Liye (Unplugged),which he has sung himself, went on to become a huge hit.

“Prince is my first big-banner film, and I was honoured that Kumar Taurani (Director of TIPS music) chose a relative newcomer like me when he has worked with amazing musicians like Pritam and AR Rahman in the past,” says Gupta.

The music director was in Pune on Saturday for the release of DJ Rohan’s remix of Tere Liye at a popular nightclub, and was pleasantly surprised at the huge response it got from the crowd.

“The song happened when I was just strumming my guitar and humming a tune at 4am,one fine morning and recorded it on a hunch because it sounded really nice. I’m glad it turned out to be such a hit,as it has only strengthened my belief that good music comes straight from the heart, and happens mostly by accident,” he smiles.

Gupta now has a couple of films lined up,and is also collaborating with TIPS music to release ‘Superhits of Sachin’,a compilation of all his popular songs which is slated for release later this year.

“I enjoy coming to Pune a lot,and as a musician it’s always nice to see people enjoying and accepting your music,” he says before signing off.
