The members of Parliament Petition Committee, who on Saturday visited Bhosari,Nigdi and Dehu Road areas to study the grievances of residents regarding no-development zone, did not give them any assurance on reducing Red Zone markings around army depots.
The committee members, who visited the areas on the request of Shirur MP Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil, also interacted with military officers and PCMC officials.
Thousands of residents have set up their houses in the no-development zone (Red Zone) of army depots. The Red Zone issue around Dighi Magazine Depot near Bhosari has remained unresolved for over a decade. Similarly, the Dehu Road ammunition depot issue has also persisted.
Adhalrao said the panel investigated the issue and would submit their report to the government. The arrival of the committee to study the issue is very significant. All this while, nobody visited the place to study and understand the problem, he said.
Adhalrao said over 1.25 lakh people live around Dighi Magazine Depot. The residents are demanding that no development zone around the depot should be reduced from 400 m to 300 m, he said.
