Bringing together artists from across the country, this exhibition is aimed at generating funds for social activities
The city will be treated to works of noted artists today. An exhibition – Art For Concern – has been organised by Concern India Foundation at the O Hotel to combine art with social causes. This exhibition, which has previously been held in Mumbai,Delhi,Bengaluru,Hyderabad and Kolkata, will have over 60 works on display by artists Jehangir Jani,Gurcharan Singh,Indrajit Prasad,Prafulla Dahanukar,Akbar Padamsee,Anjolie Ela Menon,Lalu Prasad Shaw,Mayyur Kailash gupta,P Elanchezhiyan and Shripad Gurav among others. The funds raised through the event will be used by the NGO to support over 200 grass root programmes in the areas of education, health and community development.
Art For Concern, which was initiated 10 years ago, sees artists from around the country coming together to donate their works for various social causes. Earlier, the art market was very nascent in terms of sale. But now things have changed completely. People buy a lot of art and spending for a cause is just an added bonus for us, says Ameeta Munshi, the public communications manager of Concern India Foundation. Gurcharan Singh, who has been painting for the last 40 years, says,The diversity of the nature and the spirit of the people of my country has always stimulated my head, heart and hands. Thus I sit before the canvas to bring them to life. I have been associated with Art for Concern since its inception and I feel privileged to donate my paintings for this noble cause.
Artist Jehangir Jani adds,My paintings are an expression of freedom – an imagination which wants to always expand. He wants to help the elderly and aged through the proceeds gathered through this exhibition. When we are young,we want to grow up as fast as we can. But the moment we are adults,we never want to grow old. And it is then that we are most helpless, he feels.
