The National Talent Search (NTS) examination for class VIII students, conducted by National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), has been scheduled on November 8. Student selected through this examination get financial help in the form of monthly scholarships for specialisation in science,social sciences,engineering,medicine,management and law. For basic science,social science and commerce,the assistance is provided up to Ph.D level,while for rest of the specialisations,assistance is given till post graduation. The last date to send in applications is August 31. A total of 1,000 scholarships will be awarded to students,a press release stated. There will be two-stage selection state and union territory level and students who get selected here will be eligible for national level examination.
Similarly,the National Mean-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) Scheme examination for students from economically backward class (parents with annual income less than 1,50,000) will also be held on November 8. Only those students who have passed class VII with minimum 55 per cent marks (reserve category 50 per cent) and are presently studying in class VIII are eligible for the examination.
