Drawing Competition
A drawing competition for students of Stds V – VIII was held at the NMV Boys school on Saturday,December 17. Along with the students,teachers also tried their hand at drawing – it was quite like the scene out of Taare Zameen Par. Students Rohan Umap,Pratik Humbre,Rishabh Gaikwad and Prathamesh Sorate were declared winners from Stds V,VI,VII and VIII respectively. S K Yamgar won topped the competition in the teachers’ category.

The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) is organising its annual National School Intensive (NSI) event at Delhi Public School from December 24 -30. The event is aimed at getting the children to stay together in a Gurukul-like environment to get a glimpse of our culture and traditions. Emphasising this point,Dr Kiran Seth,the founder of SPIC MACAY,said,The Indian culture is full of mysticism and vast knowledge. Our aim is to make the students aware of the importance of this culture in a distraction-free environment.
The NSI will not only concentrate on classical music but also on folk forms,theatre and films that have made a mark in society. The event will have performances by maestros like Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia,Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt,Ustad Rashid Khan,Pandit Birju Maharaj,Rajan & Sajan Mishra. Besides music,there will be sessions on puppetry,craft,pottery and sculptures as well. It is not necessary that these students have to take up music as their career but this knowledge will prove to be very helpful in shaping their personality, says Geeta Prakash who works with the organisation.
Around 350 students from all over the country will be a part of the event. Thirty students from city-based Delhi Public School,Orchid School,Kalmadi High School Aundh and Ganeshnagar,Army Public School,Dehu Road,and Dnyan Prabodhini School,Nigdi,are participating.
