Spic Macay and ICCR have organised a 15-day event with veterans in classical art forms for foreign students in the city
Too much of Copyright Act is killing art,” says veteran flautist Hariprasad Chourasia, adding,”The reason is insincerity that has crept in the society, which is affecting every relation- be it that between the audience and performer or father and son.”
The artiste is in town to participate in the ongoing event – Heritage 2010. The objective of the event is to share glimpses of rich Indian heritage with foreign students in India through various art forms. The event is being organised by Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) in collaboration with International Council for Cultural Relation (ICCR).
On his association with the organisation,Chourasia says that he was able to reach out to people and youth at large through Spic Macay. “I feel proud to say that I have performed in terrains of Chambal and auditoriums of schools and colleges of many small and big cities,” adding,”While our politicians are busy in politics and businessmen are engaged in designing market strategies, artistes and art-lovers are left to fend for themselves and preserve the culture in form of various art forms though programmes and performances.”
Talking about folk art,Kiran Seth, founder,Spic Macay says that folk art can now be divided into two categories – original and artificial. “Folk art changes with time, thereby making it difficult to be preserved. Now what we see is artificial folk art with a lot of influence of other popular art forms,” he adds.
Coming back to popularity of classical art in India and on foreign land and the role such events,Chourasia says,”Such events not only popularise classical music among foreign nationals, but also encourages our students and foreign students to take up art as a subject, which is the need of the hour and the first step towards preservation of art.”
