Shailesh Khachne, software engineer: Shows like Family Guy are a reflection of the shallow ideals of society. It shows that though we are grown up,we are essentially narrow minded, how we haven’t broadened our way of thinking. However, personally,I don’t like these shows as I feel that some of the jokes are in poor taste.
Bhushan Sawant,IT professional: I feel that most cartoons are very degenerative and don’t add any value to our lives. Such shows can seriously affect impressionable minds, especially young kids and there should be a strict age bar on such shows. As a matter a fact,I have seen many people actually follow these shows as a way of life. Having said so,I find South Park great for a quiet chuckle.
Vijeta Kanabar, student: I am a big fan of cartoons, especially South Park. I feel that, through satire, such cartoons criticise social issues. The best part is that the makers are not afraid to stir a hornet’s nest and are not easily intimidated.
Neeraj Bhatt, entrepreneur: The content of such serials may appear twisted, but it is based on some truth,a truth that most of society chooses to ignore. The sarcasm in these programmes is well conceived they correctly lampoon society’s failings.
Nabeel Parkar, mechanical engineer: Shows like Family Guy and The Simpsons show how obstinate and petty the adult mind can be,and how they justify the same with their authority and power. It is an interesting thing, but cartoons like The Simpsons and South Park, though meant for adults, have children as the main protagonists.
Karthik Rajan, student: South Parks blatant and fearless disregard of society and what it blindly believes is probably the most important reason why adults love the show. It combines seemingly random humour with surgically precise attacks on the things that affect us most, like politics, sexual orientation and core belief systems like religion.
