Not So Tempting

While this new restaurant in Kalyani Nagar wins on main course offerings and decor,it has yet to pick up on other aspects.

We walked in to Temptations,a new vegetarian restaurant in Kalyani Nagar,to be greeted by a smiling valet and a helpful staff. As we were ushered to our table — a booth with large red comfortable sofas — we couldn’t help but notice that the place was empty. We were handed the menu with a wide selection of soups, salads, sizzlers, starters, main course and desserts. The prices,we noticed, were on the higher side.

Among starters,we were quite interested in seeing the Cheese appams with stew on the menu, but were informed that it wasn’t available for dinner. We went for the Potato tostados instead, made with french fries, topped with cheese sauce,Mexican beans, olives and jalapeno and salsa. Pleased with the generous portion,we dig into the crispy French fries laden with beans and cheese. While the combination of beans and fried potato was interesting,we suggest you to eat it up quickly, before the whole thing turns soggy.

Temptations does not have a large selection of drinks, alcoholic or otherwise. Since we had a long drive back home from Kalyani Nagar,we decided to skip the drinks. Our 18-year-old companion, however, ordered the chocolate milkshake, which was too thin and too sweet — souring his mood temporarily,as did the Backstreet Boys playing in the background.

The restaurants seems to have got its main course right. There was a selection of Indian and Oriental dishes, along with pizza and pasta representing the Italian cuisine. We decided to skip the Indian, and ordered the Heavenly seven pizza and the red Thai curry served with fried rice. The pizza was a thin-crusted affair, laden with capsicum,sun-dried tomatoes, black olives, pineapple, mushrooms, jalapenos and corn. We believe that a pizza is well-made when one doesn’t have to reach for extra oregano, pepper, chilly flakes or ketchup. It was well-made,in that sense, with the crust baked to perfection, and just the right amount of crunchiness. The Thai curry was delectable, with the flavours of garlic, peppercorns, parsley and lemongrass giving it a lovely aroma.

The dessert was disappointing, however — one, because we wanted to try the Two berries cheesecake and were informed that it wasn’t available, and two, because the Sizzling brownie sundae we ordered was a let-down. The brownie, served in a sizzling pan with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream,was topped with chocolate sauce. But it tasted clammy and limp. Apart from its main course and the slick decor,Temptations does not seem to have any redeeming quality. It may be because they are new,or because they are trying out different things, but we would recommend you wait a bit before trying it out.
