Not enough awareness programmes on UID,say citizens

While there were talks of having a brand ambassador for the project,the state government has restricted itself to just television advertisements and would then be going on with banners,posters etc.

Soumini Menon,who is born and brought up in Pune,moved recently to Kerala. She is not sure if she should come back to give all her info to get the UID number. “Though we can register from anywhere in the country,we have our Pune address in the residence proof,”she says.

Meanwhile,Mohan Gupta,an IT professional,said he would be out throughout the day and even if the enumerators come for data collection,he would not be able to provide the details on weekdays.

“There should be some simple system which will enable the citizens to approach the enumerators for registration. Like for getting a voter’s ID card,they set up booths for registration,”he said.

While district officials are maintaining that they have all the IEC material in place,it is hard to find a proper hoarding in the city meant for the UID project.

“We will be setting them up in the coming month and every village,taluka and district in the state will have all the IEC materials for the project,” said Nitin Kareer.
