Non-teaching staff members of secondary schools in Pune district on Monday protested and demanded the repeal of the Non-Teaching Staff Recruitment Pattern,2005 at Education Directorate on Monday.

Non-teaching staff members of secondary schools in Pune district on Monday protested and demanded the repeal of the Non-Teaching Staff Recruitment Pattern,2005 at Education Directorate on Monday. They also demanded government should revoke the ban on recruitment of non-teaching staff in the state. Government has stopped recruitment of non-teaching staff in schools since June 2009 .

As many as four hundred clerks, peons, librarians and lab attendants from various secondary schools participated in the protest organised by Pune Zilha Madhyamic Shala Shikshketar Sevak Sangh,(PZMSSSS),an organisation of non-teaching staff of secondary schools in the district. A memorandum was handed over to the Director of Education,Maharashtra.

Shivaji Khandekar, secretary,PZMSSSS said,”In 2005 the state government implemented the new pattern on recruitment of non-teaching staff based on G D Kokani committee recommendations. The committee didn’t have any representation from educational organisations, teacher’s association and non-teaching staff association. The recommendations were arbitrary and its implementation resulted in cutting down of the non-teaching staff and several hundred people lost their jobs. We demand that the 2005 pattern should be revoked and recruitment should be based on Chiplunkar Committee recommendations or Secondary School Code. Government should immediately start recruitment of the non-teaching staff.”

“To press for the demands, the state-level protest will be organised at Azad Maidan in Mumbai on August 1,” he added.
