Travelling to Mumbai this Sunday could be difficult as all intercity trains have been cancelled for the day for the maintenance work being undertaken by the Central Railway. This holds true for trains bound for Lonavala and Talegaon as well as they will either be cancelled or will terminate at Chinchwad. Long-distance trains scheduled to pass through Pune will either bypass the junction or run a few hours late.
Long-distance trains Udyan Express,Nagercoil Express and Hyderabad Express will skip Pune and pass via the Daund-Manmad route. Pune passengers will have to catch the train from Daund, Central Railway spokesperson YK Singh said.
Similarly, passengers travelling towards Mumbai by the Hyderabad-CST express, the Chennai-CST Express and the Coimbatore Express will have to alight at Daund instead of Pune.
The Central Railway will undertake maintenance work in both Mumbai and Pune, which will block the route for 11 hours from 8.20 am to 7.20 pm. The demolition of the old bridge at the Dehu Road station is the main work in Pune. We have chosen Sunday as passenger traffic reduces by 50 per cent. The new bridge at the Dehu road station became operational around a month ago. The old bridge has to be dismantled. We are also increasing the height of the overhead wire, Singh said.
Most of the work is expected to be completed by Sunday. However,a few trains will be delayed on Monday and Tuesday as well when maintenance work is scheduled for three hours in the afternoon. On Monday, the Pune-Manmad Express will be delayed by over three hours. Two trains to Lonalvala (L16 and L18) will terminate at Chinchwad. On Tuesday,L18 will terminate at Chinchwad. A few local trains will also be cancelled.
On Sunday, five trains bound for Lonavala and Talegaon ( L-16Up,L-18Up,L-11 and L-26 as well as T-5) stand cancelled. All the other Lonavala and Talegaon trains will halt at Chinchwad. Two long-distance trains the Koyna Express and the Manmad-Pune Express stand cancelled. The Sinhagad Express will leave Mumbai at 5.30 pm and there will be a three-hour delay in the arrival of the train in Pune.
