With heavy pre-monsoon downpour over the last three days,there was blackout for over 50 hours in several parts of the city. According to officials at the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co Ltd (MSEDCL),power supply was restored on Saturday afternoon after the faults were repaired.
Electricity wires got snapped after four to five trees got uprooted behind the Tata Honeywell Industrial Estate,Bibvewadi and Market Yard. Localities such as Mundhwa,Wanworie,BT Kawade Road,Hadapsar,Bibvewadi,Market Yard,Fatima Nagar etc was plunged in darkness from Thursday evening. At Vitthalwadi power failure resulted from water logging.
Chairman of Siciliaa Housing Society on B T Kawde Road Suresh Dhar said they had to face a lot of problems due to power outage. We are using generators for running lifts and water pumps, said Dhar. He added refrigerators were not working,spoiling food in many homes.
We have been without electricity since Thursday evening. I tried to call MSEDCL on several of their helpline numbers but none was working and those worked were not answered. I was planning a hunger strike if the supply was not restored by Saturday, said another resident of B T Kawade Road.
Officials said about 12 cable faults were located on B T Kawde Road and power had to be shut down as a precautionary measure. The MSEDCL took over 50 hours to locate the faults. There was a fault in the underground cable system and it was difficult to repair it due to the rain, said an official. MSEDCL official,Rastha peth circle,Pramod Palange,said MSEDCL staff have been working round the clock to rectify the defect. A repair detection vehicle was also pressed into service.
